extending the mandate of the Head of Mission of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) (EUAM Iraq/1/2025)

THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38, third paragraph, thereof,

Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2017/1869 of 16 October 2017 on the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) (1), and in particular Article 9(1) thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Pursuant to Article 9(1) of Decision (CFSP) 2017/1869, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) is authorised, in accordance with Article 38, third paragraph, of the Treaty, to take the relevant decisions for the purpose of exercising political control and strategic direction of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq), including the decision to appoint a Head of Mission upon a proposal of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy (the ‘High Representative’).

(2) On 29 April 2024, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2024/1247 (2), amending Decision (CFSP) 2017/1869 and extending the mandate of EUAM Iraq from 1 May 2024 to 30 April 2026.

(3) On 30 April 2024, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2024/1308 (3), extending the mandate of Mr Anders WIBERG as Head of Mission of EUAM Iraq from 1 May 2024 to 30 April 2025.

(4) On 20 February 2025, the High Representative proposed to extend the mandate of Mr Anders WIBERG as Head of Mission of EUAM Iraq from 1 May 2025 to 15 August 2025,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The mandate of Mr Anders WIBERG as Head of Mission of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) is extended from 1 May 2025 to 15 August 2025.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
